The Cluster

This past Sunday mom & I went to the Kentuckiana Cluster dog show. We met up with Carla at the Fairgrounds & watched the dogs run sport agility. Some of those Border Collies sure are fast. While wandering around, the strangest thing happened. I met another GSD named Johann that had wonderful structure...straight back and all. (For those of you who are unaware - finding a GSD with good working structure at an AKC sanctioned event is pretty rare.) We met his owners & it turns out that they share many of the RK-9 beliefs about real dog training & about the general destruction in structure of the show-ring GSD. It was quite heart-warming to come across a like-minded individual...and even moreso, a breeder that isn't afraid to infiltrate the AKC events & show the unknowing public what a real GSD should look like.

I would love to think that the tide is turning. It will be a great day when the judges stop awarding virtually crippled GSD's with the "Best of Breed" title. After all, my breed was never supposed to resemble a ski-slope or walk like a seal.

ka-BOOM!!!

3.9.06
It was a stormy Thursday night...high winds and heavy rains. We were all bedded down for a night of blissful slumber in our doggie-beds when suddenly - ka-BOOM!!! The whole house shook on it's foundation. We had no idea what happened, but Mom wasn't too pleased. Seems like the storm got the best of the neighbor's large, old tree, which proceeded to fall on our house. Not wanting to go down without some fanfare, the tree took down all of the power lines in the general vicinity...knocked them all over the street, our driveway & the yard.

They had to bring in a CRANE to get the tree off of our house!! It was quite a spectacle. The house sustained some damage to the roof, gutters & exterior, however everyone who saw the mess said we were very lucky that it didn't smash it's way all the way into the house. That would have been not so good.

Mom is now quite happy with something called "Homeowner's". Not too sure what that is, but our house is scheduled to be fixed, so it can't be too bad...

Freakshow Sally

So last night I went to the grocery with Mom. As usual, I guarded the car from hostile attack while the shopping took place. All seemed quiet until Mom came out and started loading the groceries. A man came up and said that he would take her cart when she was finished. She continued to load bags...I began to growl, sensing impending doom. Finally she was done, but the man didn't move & started asking her about me. I barked a couple of times (normally this does the trick). She brushed off his questions, said I wasn't too friendly & blocked him with the cart. She then closed the rear door & went to get in the car. The man acted like he was going to walk away, but I wasn't fooled. Suddenly he lunged back at the car. That was it. Time to bring out the big guns. I lunged too, hit the window, barked like mad and rocked the car like an earthquake. Finally the nutcase got the picture and moved along. Sheesh. I sometimes worry what would happen to Mom if she didn't have me to look after her. There are a lot of crazies out there...

Saving The Best For Last

Hello there. I thought I should take a moment to properly introduce myself...I'm Jasper, the founding member of the K-9 Posse. At 8 years old, I've been "around the block" a few times (in Ohio, Canada, Colorado & Kentucky, to be exact)...and I still chase each and every squirrel that crosses my path.

When I'm groomed, I get called the "Dr. Seuss Dog", but don't let my cute facade fool you...I live for bitework! This past Saturday, our protection decoy even said something to the effect of, "It's a good thing that dog isn't 100 pounds, he'd be scary!" That's right. I'm a compact, yet highly effective, ankle-biter!!
