The Idiots Are Multiplying...

OK...so I don't get it. I'm a fully grown, male, intact German Shepherd's Dog that EVERYONE (oh, yes, that's right...everyone) feels the need to attempt to grope. For crying out loud, people, the very description of my breed states: "The breed has a distinct personality marked by direct and fearless, but not hostile, expression, self-confidence and a certain aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships..." I DON'T LEND MYSELF TO IMMEDIATE AND INDISCRIMINATE FRIENDSHIPS!!! Therefore, your fruitless attempts to lay your grubby little hands on my fur are NOT appreciated...

Why on earth do people think that they have the God-given right to pet any dog that they please - even when they have no knowledge or ownership of that animal? I mean, seriously, approaching a strange dog is a really fantastic way to wind up getting a dog bite. Without fail, however, people seem to be magnetically drawn to other people's dogs, like the entire world is their own personal petting zoo.

I am here to inform you folks that it isn't. You need to have enough sense to ask permission of the dog's owner before you lean into, reach for, leap at or in any other way, shape or form attempt to lay a hand on their dog. AND you most certainly need to teach any little people whom you may have to do the same. Dogs are not public property.

Some dogs, like me, don't even enjoy being touched by strangers. People, however, see a trained, obedient dog & come running - tentacles outstretched - ready to cop a feel...argh!

So the next time you are out in public and feel the need to rush up to someone's dog, please take a minute and use your brain instead of your hands...ASK FIRST, or better yet, restrain yourself altogether from touching an animal that does not belong to you.

If all else fails, remember the words of John Anderson: "Don't give me no lines and keep your hands to yourself."

Thank You.
